House with a View
A large spread out house with a stunning view that had not been updated for decades. The historic property was a series of extensions around a vast central room with a high vaulted ceiling and needed unifying and a layout that worked with the flow of modern living.
The architect needed to radically change the building to connect with the view, have versatility, get a master bedroom with a sea panorama, insulate and improve sustainability. The architect and I worked closely together to get a solution that would work for the client without costing the earth.
Building on a geological instability zone that is part of the Dorset coast around Lyme Regis, sensible foundations were designed with the clever engineer and part of the house demolished to make room for the new layout. I put together the right building team with the right experience and managed it closely, with a constant supply of photos sent to the clients abroad.
A delicate balance of the old and the new, colonial and modernist, makes this large house comfortable, adaptable and fun. The view though is stunning and can now be fully appreciated and be a part of the new living experience.
